The Sustainable Consumption Workshop 2026: Integrating Human Rights and Climate Action, organized by WorldEd Foundation, has officially come to a close—marking the culmination of months of collaboration, creativity, and youth-led innovation.

Bringing together students from across the globe, the workshop empowered young leaders to design real-world solutions addressing critical global challenges, including fast fashion, food waste, and single-use plastics.

Among the many inspiring teams, one stood out for their clarity, innovation, and measurable impact.

1st Place: Team Planet Protectors

We are proud to announce Team Planet Protectors, Senay Mehari & Iten Mohammed as the 1st Place winners, awarded a scholarship supported by WorldEd School in recognition of their outstanding work and commitment to sustainability.

Focusing on the pressing issue of single-use plastics, Planet Protectors approached the problem with both insight and intention. Through research conducted within their school community, they discovered a key barrier to change:

Students were already aware of the problem and wanted to reduce plastic use—but lacked clear, accessible guidance on how to do so.

This powerful insight shaped the foundation of their solution.

From Awareness to Action: The EcoServe Model

To bridge this gap, the team developed EcoServe, a behavior-based solution designed to make sustainable choices simple, practical, and accessible.

Their approach focused not just on recycling waste—but on preventing it in the first place.

Key elements of their solution included:

  • QR Code Access Points: Strategically placed around the school, allowing students to easily locate refill stations and access tips for reducing plastic use

  • EcoServe Guide: A simple, user-friendly resource providing actionable steps for everyday sustainable choices

  • Sustainability Pledge: Encouraging students to commit to reducing plastic consumption, building a culture of accountability and awareness

By removing barriers and making the sustainable option the easiest option, Planet Protectors successfully shifted behavior within their school environment.

Real Impact, Real Results

The team didn’t just propose a solution—they tested it.

In a one-week trial with a group of students, the results were remarkable:

  • Reusable bottle usage increased from 2 out of 10 students to 8 out of 10

  • A 400% increase in sustainable behavior within just one week

  • The potential to reduce hundreds of plastic bottles per week if implemented school-wide

These results demonstrate a critical truth:When people are given the right tools and information, they are willing—and ready—to change.

Sustainability as a Human Right

Planet Protectors also highlighted the connection between environmental issues and human rights. Their project emphasized how plastic pollution impacts health and well-being, aligning with Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

By framing sustainability as both an environmental and human rights issue, they brought depth and global relevance to their work.

A Model for Future Change

The success of Planet Protectors reflects the core mission of the WorldEd Foundation: to empower youth to think critically, act responsibly, and lead change within their communities and beyond.

Their project is more than a winning idea—it is a scalable model that can be replicated in schools, communities, and public spaces worldwide.

Congratulations to Our Changemakers

We celebrate Team Planet Protectors for their innovation, dedication, and impact. Their work is a powerful reminder that:

Small actions, when multiplied, create real change.

As we conclude the Sustainable Consumption Workshop 2026, we look forward to seeing how these young leaders continue to shape a more sustainable, conscious, and equitable future.
