At WorldEd Foundation, we are proud to celebrate the incredible dedication and achievements of seven schools across Kenema and Kailahun Districts in Sierra Leone, who participated in the Guardians of the Earth project.
Under the inspirational leadership of Dr. Carlos Richard Sankoh and coordinated by Agenda for Rural Reconstruction and Development (AfoRRD), these schools demonstrated the true spirit of resilience, creativity, and environmental stewardship despite facing significant challenges.
Participating Schools:
Grace Land Academy, Kenema
The Door International Academy, Kenema
Good Shepard Primary School, Kenema
National Unity Primary School, Kenema
Methodist Primary School, Kigbai, Kailahun
Roman Catholic Primary School, Bunumbu, Kailahun
Roman Catholic Primary School, Jokibu, Kailahun
Highlights of the Guardians of the Earth Project in Sierra Leone:
1. Creative Environmental Art (March 20 – April 10, 2025) Students used art to creatively address critical environmental themes such as reforestation, plastic pollution, and climate action. Their colorful drawings were displayed proudly in classrooms and exhibitions, showing the power of youth voices.
2. Environmental Clean-up Campaigns (March 25 – April 8, 2025) Students took action by cleaning their school environments, learning proper waste disposal methods, and becoming advocates for a cleaner, healthier planet.
3. Tree Planting and Nursery Development: Hands-on activities helped students understand the importance of reforestation and sustainable environmental practices. These activities planted seeds not just in the soil, but in the minds of future leaders.
Impact and Achievements:
70 pupils directly involved in activities
Students became peer advocates for environmental protection
Hands-on learning created a deep, lasting understanding of sustainability
Stronger collaboration between schools and local communities
Facing Challenges, Growing Stronger
Despite timetable conflicts, limited resources, and difficult road access to remote communities, the students and teachers never gave up. Their commitment to the environment and the future of their communities stood stronger than the obstacles they faced. A special thanks to the coordinators and teachers for their commitment to this project.
Their participation is a powerful reminder: when given the opportunity, children rise to protect what they love.
