Our Sustainable Workshop 2024 has concluded, leaving us inspired and optimistic about the future. Students from around the world came together to tackle some of the most pressing environmental challenges, showcasing innovative solutions that have made a significant impact in their communities. Let's celebrate their achievements in addressing fast fashion, single-use plastics, and food waste.


Fast Fashion: Turning Trends into Green Initiatives


Vogue Verts Team from Smart City International School of Hurghada, Egypt:


  • Students: Layal Amr Khattab & Celina Emad

  • Coordinator: Ms. Shaymaa Abaza


Solutions:

  1. Facebook Group for Clothes Swapping: A platform for students to exchange clothes, promoting reuse and reducing waste. Join their group

  2. Instagram Awareness Campaign: An account dedicated to spreading awareness about the impacts of fast fashion and encouraging sustainable practices. Follow them

  3. Clothes Swapping Event: Held on June 5th, 2024, this event fostered a culture of sustainability among students.


Slogan: "The future is on our plate. Let’s not waste it."




Fast Fashion Educators Team from CLV Liceum Ogólnokształcące z Oddziałami Dwujęzycznymi, Poland:


  • Students: Kacper Redkiewicz & Maja Gromulska

  • Coordinator: Aneta Juzwin


Solution:

  • Clothes Swap Event: Promoted sustainable fashion choices by organizing an event where students could exchange clothing items, reducing the demand for new clothes and minimizing waste. Explore their work


Single-Use Plastics: Creative Recycling and Upcycling


Eco Friends Team from Smart City International School of Hurghada, Egypt:


  • Students: Karim Hisham & Adam Abdel Fattah El Gazzar

  • Coordinator: Ms. Shaymaa Abaza


Solution:

  • Single-use Plastics Recycling: Collected and recycled plastics, launching an awareness campaign targeting the younger generation to reduce their carbon footprint and support sustainable products.


Slogan: "It's time to take action! Take a step to positively impact by reducing our carbon footprint and supporting sustainable products."



Plastic Conquerors Team from CIS, El Baragil, Awseem, Giza, Egypt:


  • Students: Sedona Omer & Yasmin Farag

  • Coordinator: Azza Mahmoud


Solution:

  • Upcycling Plastics: Reused discarded plastic containers to build DIY air conditioners, providing a practical and sustainable solution for cooling.


Slogan: "Think before you throw away."




The Plastic Girls Team from CLV Liceum Ogólnokształcące z Oddziałami Dwujęzycznymi, Poland:


  • Students: Maja Lewandowska & Iga Zdanowska

  • Coordinator: Aneta Juzwin


Solution:

  • Centralized Recycling: Removed classroom bins and created recycling spots with crusher machines for plastic. Partnered with a recycling company for educational sessions on SUP and recycling.


Food Waste: From Awareness to Action


Leftovers Team from Bohaterki Powstania Warszawskiego High School, Poland:


  • Students: Marta Khouri & Zuzanna Krawczyk

  • Coordinator: Aneta Juzwin


Achievements:

  1. Research: Identified areas for improvement in the school cafeteria.

  2. Survey: Gauged knowledge about food waste among students.

  3. Presentation: Organized awareness lessons about food waste.

  4. Cancelling Lunches: Encouraged students to cancel lunch orders when absent.


Future Plans:

  • Cancelling Lunches App: Aiming to create an app for easy lunch cancellations.


Waste Warriors Team from CIS, El Baragil, Awseem, Giza, Egypt:


  • Students: Zainab Moatasem Haroun & Nooran Mohamed Rushdy

  • Coordinator: Ms. Iman Naguib


Solution:

  • Portion Control & Food Pyramid Education: Educated students on portion control and the food pyramid using fun and engaging methods.

  • Waste Warriors Board Game: Created a game to teach food preservation techniques.


Slogan: "To every problem, there is a solution."


Non-consumptive Gourmets Team from Smart City International School of Hurghada, Egypt:


  • Students: Amani Mohammed & Aya Ehab

  • Coordinator: Ms. Shaymaa Abaza


Solutions:

  1. Social Media Awareness: Created an account to raise awareness about food waste.

  2. Food Donations: Donated excess food to people in need.
