As the Sustainable Consumption Project 2026, organized by WorldEd Foundation, comes to a close, we continue to celebrate the remarkable achievements of young innovators who are turning awareness into action.
Among these inspiring teams, Team No Crumb has been recognized as 2nd Place Winners – Sustainability Champions for their impactful work addressing one of the world’s most overlooked challenges: food waste.
Understanding the Problem
Led by Ada Uz and Melike Kök, Team No Crumb began their project by exploring how food waste manifests within their own community. Their findings reflected a global reality:
Nearly one-third of all food produced is wasted
Valuable resources such as water and energy are lost
Millions of people continue to face hunger
Through their research, they uncovered a critical insight—awareness was low. In fact, only a small percentage of students fully understood the environmental and social impact of food waste.
This revealed that the issue was not just about behavior—but about education and understanding.
“Crumbs Matter”: A Student-Led Solution
In response, the team launched their initiative, “Crumbs Matter – Small Waste, Big Consequences”, focused on raising awareness and encouraging more responsible consumption habits.
Their approach combined education with practical action:
Student Presentations: Educating peers on the impact of food waste and its connection to sustainability and human rights
Cafeteria Collaboration: Working with staff to reduce portion sizes and minimize excess food
Awareness Campaigns: Using posters and messaging to encourage mindful eating habits
Behavioral Change: Promoting simple actions like taking only what you can eat and reducing leftovers
Beyond waste reduction, the team also explored ways to repurpose leftover food—from feeding animals to composting and energy use—demonstrating a holistic approach to sustainability.
Driving Awareness and Impact
Team No Crumb’s work highlights a powerful truth: Change begins with awareness.
By educating their peers and introducing simple, actionable solutions, they laid the foundation for long-term behavioral change within their school community.
Their message resonates far beyond their project:
Every meal matters. Every choice matters. Every crumb matters.
Food Waste as a Global and Human Issue
The team also emphasized the broader implications of food waste—not just as an environmental issue, but as a human rights concern.
In a world where millions face food insecurity, reducing waste becomes a matter of responsibility, equity, and global awareness.
Celebrating Impact and Leadership
Team No Crumb’s recognition as Sustainability Champions reflects their dedication, creativity, and commitment to driving meaningful change.
Their project is a reminder that impactful solutions don’t always require complex systems—sometimes, they begin with simple, conscious decisions made every day.
As we celebrate their achievement, we are inspired by their vision and leadership in building a more sustainable and equitable future. 🌱✨
